TACLOBAN CITY – Philippine Eagle “Lakpue” is recovering well after being rescued in Burauen, Leyte, following an encounter with a domestic dog that resulted in the complete loss of one of his talons.
Jayson Ibañez, Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) research and conservation director, said the raptor has a “good appetite” and is receiving treatment at Doc Bayani’s Animal Wellness Clinic in Davao City.
“We’re just waiting for his next round of complete blood count readings and the disease screening results before we transfer him to the Philippine Eagle Center for rehabilitation,” Ibañez said in a phone interview Monday.
In an update released Aug. 20, the PEF said Lakpue lost one of his claws after encountering a domesticated dog exploring the forest near the Marabong River.
