He alleged that instead of addressing the environmental concerns he raised, the company and one of its associates, identified as Sa’adu Umar, caused a complaint to be lodged against him, resulting in his arrest and detention over an allegation of defamation.
A lecturer at the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Gombe State, Ali Hussaini, has raised the alarm over what he described as a sustained campaign of persecution, false accusation and institutional compromise after he raised concerns over the handling of Reverse Osmosis (RO) waste water by a table-water factory in his community.
Hussaini, a lecturer in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, said his ordeal began after he challenged the alleged discharge of RO reject water by Gadaa Links Investment Limited into or around a community water source in Tukulma Beto, Kundulum, Gona District, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
He alleged that instead of addressing the environmental concerns he raised, the company and one of its associates, identified as Sa’adu Umar, caused a complaint to be lodged against him, resulting in his arrest and detention over an allegation of defamation.
The lecturer said he was subsequently released on bail but continued pursuing the environmental issue through relevant regulatory authorities.
