MANILA, Philippines — Those behind substandard flood control projects in Bulacan should be jailed, Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos said, as he accused the province of being “severely abused” by projects that failed to protect communities from flooding.
Abalos and Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, acting on the direct orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., on Saturday visited the severely flooded coastal towns of Hagonoy and Paombong to inspect the disaster response and assess the condition of flood control infrastructure.
Their inspection showed that dilapidated and damaged sections of seawalls had left Barangays Masukol and Sta. Cruz in Paombong heavily exposed to severe coastal flooding.
