Labour and civil society organisation Professionals and Labour Civil Organisation of South Africa (Placosa) took to the street accusing Transnet of failing to properly investigate alleged corruption and procurement collusion surrounding R824 million worth of contracts at its Richards Bay port operations.
Labour and civil society organisation Professionals and Labour Civil Organisation of South Africa (Placosa) has accused Transnet of failing to properly investigate alleged corruption and procurement collusion surrounding R824 million worth of materials-handling equipment contracts at its Richards Bay port operations.
Placosa members have been protesting outside Transnet offices in Richards Bay and this week handed a memorandum to the executive management of Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), demanding greater accountability over procurement processes and the treatment of black-owned service providers.
The organisation claims recent investigations by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and Transnet into procurement irregularities have failed to expose those ultimately responsible for alleged wrongdoing, describing the processes as a “window-dressing exercise”.
Placosa alleges that senior executives have been shielded while lower-level employees have been held responsible.
