PRASA’s R1bn security contracts face forensic investigation over alleged tender breaches

Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy has ordered two separate forensic investigations into alleged irregularities involving security contracts at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

This comes after media reports alleged that security company Reshebile Aviation and Protection Services secured contracts worth about R1 billion from the rail agency without following proper tender processes.

Addressing Parliament’s Select Committee on Public Infrastructure, Creecy said the department needed clarity on whether PRASA’s contracts were properly awarded and complied with the law.

She said the PRASA board would be required to appoint forensic investigators to examine the disputed contracts.
