Tigers taking their first steps onto African soil and feeling the African sun at Lions Rock big cat sanctuary in the Free State on Thursday.
With the rise of irresponsible pet ownership fuelling unnecessary animal suffering, the director of Four Paws South Africa, Fiona Miles, make a call for action. She and many other anti-animal cruelty activists is lobbying the government to intensify legislative reforms to deal with the scourge of big cat ownership.
In a passionate plea to the South African government, Miles has urged the acceleration of legislation to ban the domestic ownership of big cats, such as tigers and lions, which have long been exploited for commercial gain.
This follows Four Paws' successful mission to rescue fifteen big cats, including nine tigers and six lions, from the notorious Zoo Lujan in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After years spent in barren concrete enclosures with little to no proper care, these big cats have found a new home at the Lions Rock Big Cat Sanctuary in Bethlehem, Free State, marking a significant victory for animal welfare efforts.
Two male lions are released into their permanent home at Lion Rock sanctuary in the Free State. For the last week the animals have been travelling to South Africa from Argentina.
