Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck facilities at the Novokuybyshevsky oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region overnight on August 22.

According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.

A fire broke out at the facility following the strike. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The Novokuybyshevsky oil refinery is one of Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities and is part of PJSC Rosneft. The refinery has a processing capacity of approximately 8.8 million tons of crude oil per year. It produces more than 20 types of products, including automotive and aviation fuel, diesel fuel and lubricant components.

The facility’s products are used to meet the needs of the Russian armed forces.
