Shipbuilding company Cochin Shipyard, delivered INS Mangrol, an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft to the Indian Navy on Saturday.According to the statement released by the Ministry of Defense, the naval craft was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi and comprises over 80 percent indigenous content and is equipped for underwater surveillance, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations in coastal waters and Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO), along with mine warfare capabilities.The Ministry said the ship is propelled by water jets and is equipped with torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets, along with advanced radars and sonars.The statement said, ‘Mangrol’ derives its name from the coastal town and minor port of 'Mangrol,' located in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. The naval vessel also continues the legacy of erstwhile INS Mangrol, an Indian naval minesweeper that remained in service till 2004.The release said the delivery of INS Mangrol stands as a testament to the growing strength of the indigenous defense manufacturing ecosystem and is another milestone in the Indian Navy’s indigenous shipbuilding journey and a reaffirmation of the government's vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat.'
