Cochin Shipyard has delivered ‘Mangrol’, the third of eight indigenously designed ASW shallow water craft, to the Indian Navy.
‘Mangrol’, the third of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWCs) indigenously designed and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited, was delivered to the Indian Navy on Friday.The delivery marks another significant milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing and advancing the Government’s vision of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’, said a press release.The Delivery Protocol was signed by Harikrishnan S, Director (Operations), CSL, and Commander U Sharan Kumar, Commanding Officer (Designate), ‘Mangrol’, in the presence of Jose VJ, Chairman & Managing Director, CSL, Commodore Anup Menon, Warship Production Superintendent, Kochi, Commodore Piyush Badoni, Command Refit Officer, Western Naval Command, C Pandi Selva Durai, IOFS, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shiraz V P, Executive Director (Ship Building), CSL, along with senior officials from the Indian Navy and CSL.Designed for coastal surveillance and maritime missionsDesigned and constructed in accordance with the classification rules of DNV, the warship is equipped to undertake a range of critical maritime missions, including underwater surveillance, Search and Rescue (SAR) operations and Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO).‘Mangrol’ is specifically designed to undertake Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations in coastal waters and is also equipped with advanced mine-laying capabilities. The vessel derives its name from the historic, strategically significant coastal township of Mangrol in Gujarat’s Surat district.Advanced systems strengthen underwater threat detectionThe warship is powered by a Diesel Engine–Waterjet Propulsion system and incorporates state-of-the-art systems, including lightweight torpedoes, indigenous ASW rockets and advanced shallow-water sonars.
