LOS ANGELES — Andy Pages, who emerged as a first-time All-Star this season and has become the stalwart center fielder for the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, broke his left hand when it was hit by a 100.2 mph fastball Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, manager Dave Roberts said.Pages is expected to miss at least four to five weeks but is not out for the season regardless of whether the fracture requires surgery, Roberts said.“It’s just really unfortunate, obviously,” Roberts said.Pages was hit by a fastball from Pirates starter Bubba Chandler in the third inning of Friday’s 5-4 walk-off win and remained in the game until Kiké Hernández replaced him in center field to start the fifth. After the Dodgers celebrated Tommy Edman’s game-ending single and a fourth consecutive win, Pages stood in the clubhouse with a massive wrap on his hand. Asked what he felt that prompted him to leave the game two innings after the hit-by-pitch, Pages deadpanned.“A fastball at 99,” he said in Spanish. The ball got him on the outer part of his left hand, just below his pinkie.Roberts did not have an immediate replacement for Pages in center field or on the active roster, but the 25-year-old will be difficult to replace regardless. Pages hit third for the Dodgers on Friday and has hit toward the top of the order for months, earning his first All-Star bid last month and putting up a .796 OPS with 21 home runs. Defensively, he has graded out as one of the best center fielders in the sport. On a roster filled with superstars, Pages has ranked second on the team with a 5.6 bWAR entering Friday’s game.
