Vapes, suspected dagga, knives, a knuckle duster and other prohibited items confiscated during SAPS-led school safety operations in Westbury.
Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile has intensified school safety operations in Westbury following the seizure of drugs, vapes, knives and other prohibited items from pupils during police-led searches at two schools.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) conducted the search and seizure operations on Friday as part of efforts to tackle substance abuse, dangerous weapons and other threats to safety and discipline at schools in the area.
At one school, authorities confiscated 20 vapes, 20 smoking substances, five matchboxes, three Okapi knives, 18 packets of suspected dagga, two tasers and two other items recorded as “sings”.
A second school yielded 16 vapes, six smoking substances, four matchboxes, three sachets of suspected dagga and a suspected dagga joint.
