Contraband was seized during a routine inspection.

Officials at the East London Management Area have successfully intercepted a cache of contraband.

During a routine pre-work inspection, officers discovered 24 arms of dagga and 37 mandrax tablets hidden near a toilet facility, marking another victory for the Department of Correctional Services’ ongoing efforts to secure its facilities against prohibited items.

The department says it continues to strengthen its security measures across its facilities, with a recent interception of contraband in the East London Management Area, Eastern Cape Region, highlighting the effectiveness of proactive security practices and vigilant officials.

It said that on Sunday, officials assigned to the agriculture section conducted a thorough inspection of the work area before authorising the commencement of daily activities, which form part of security procedures and the implementation of the Stabilisation Plan.
