The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has warned spaza shop owners against adding undisclosed charges.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a stern warning to spaza shop owners regarding the practice of imposing undisclosed charges on customers who pay by card.

This caution comes in response to reports from shoppers who have encountered unexpected fees of R2, R5, or even R10 when purchasing everyday essentials.

The practice has raised concerns about consumer rights, particularly in poorer communities where many residents rely on spaza shops for basic groceries and use bank cards to make payments.

The consumer watchdog said suppliers must comply with the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and ensure that consumers are given clear information about the prices they will pay.
