The United Kingdom has warned her citizens against travelling to six Nigerian States and the riverine areas of five others, citing rising security threats, including kidnapping, violent crime and intercommunal violence.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), in its travel advisory on Nigeria updated on Thursday, said insecurity is increasing across the country, with kidnapping, violent crime and intercommunal violence occurring throughout all regions of Nigeria. It also advised against all but essential travels to several other States.
The FCDO advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina and Zamfara States. The advisory noted that regular military operations were ongoing in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, creating a risk of retaliatory attacks.
In its warning, the British Government said there was a “high and increasing threat” from Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa, particularly around transport hubs, religious areas and large gatherings.
