U.S. President Donald Trump announced a major campaign to intensify the economic isolation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, threatening foreign nations assisting Tehran’s financial and trade networks with “tremendous economic consequences.”

Posting on Truth Social on Wednesday evening, August 19, Trump called the initiative “the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country.” Comparing the campaign to an “Economic D-Day,” he described it as a decisive economic offensive akin to the Allied operations of World War II.

“No one gave the Islamic Republic of Iran more opportunities to make a deal than I did. I feel bad for them; they missed the chance,” Trump wrote, adding that the action represents “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale.”

Trump specifically demanded an immediate halt to key financial and logistical channels supporting Tehran:

Illicit Logistics & Trade: Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies.Third-Country Enforcement: Any nation permitting its banks, companies, airports, or state institutions to provide a financial or operational “lifeline” to Iran will face U.S. economic retaliation.
