Honoring those who serve: Social workers were recognized during the Women’s Day celebration hosted by Phoenix Child Welfare and the Phoenix Network Forum at the Phoenix Community Centre.
As South Africans continue to celebrate and honour Women's Month, more than 200 residents gathered at the Phoenix Community Centre on Friday, August 14, for a Women’s Day celebration hosted jointly by Phoenix Child Welfare and the Phoenix Network Forum.
The event brought the community together for a morning dedicated to women’s empowerment, safety, personal development, and social well-being. Designed as a collaborative platform, the gathering enabled men and women to celebrate female achievement while addressing critical challenges facing local families. The multifaceted programme paired informative panel discussions and motivational speeches with live entertainment, tributes, and a Best Dressed Competition.
A diverse panel of speakers anchored the event, featuring Sahara Shelter centre manager Nadia Munsamy, GoldBar CEO Sholain Perumal, transformation facilitator Thavashni Holland, and digital content creator Chantal Naidu.
Law enforcement, judicial, and public service perspectives were represented by Lieutenant Colonel Cheryl Pillay of the South African Police Service, National Prosecuting Authority representative Vasanthie Brijmohun, and Sunitha Doodnath of Umngeni-Uthukela Water.
