A marine advisory remains in effect for all coastal and marine waters of Samoa, with wave heights exceeding 2.5 metres today and potentially reaching 3 metres or more through next week Sunday.
The Samoa Meteorology Division issued Marine Severe Weather Information Number Two at 5 am in the morning yesterday, reporting current wave heights of between 1.5 and 2 metres across the Samoa’s local seas.
The division stated a high-pressure system located at the west of New Zealand is expected to direct moderate southeasterly winds and significant waves toward Samoa later yesterday.
As the system moves eastward, the winds are forecast to strengthen, with wave heights expected to exceed 2.5 metres today, warning the continued activation of the marine advisory.
According to the weather bulletin, the expected conditions could result in strong currents and rough seas.
