Former captains Gary Teichmann (Springboks) and Sean Fitzpatrick (All Blacks) pose with the with the Rugby's Greatest Rugby trophy.
Sean Fitzpatrick had barely arrived in Johannesburg when a young South African delivered a warning that summed up the intensity of the Springboks–All Blacks rivalry.
The All Blacks captain was sitting at the front of the team bus after arriving at Johannesburg International Airport for the 1992 tour when a little boy ran up to the window and held up a sign.
It carried a simple message: “Uli is going to kill you.”
Fitzpatrick laughed as he recalled the incident in Johannesburg on Wednesday, but the name on the sign — Springboks legend Uli Schmidt — was no laughing matter for an All Black.
