Google AI Studio’s Build mode just got the feature that developers have been waiting for: a direct pipeline from GitHub. The platform now supports one-click importing of existing repositories into its app-building environment, along with bi-directional synchronization that keeps both sides in lockstep.

Previously, AI Studio Build could export code out to GitHub. Now the reverse trip is possible too.

What the update actually does

The new “Import from GitHub” button does exactly what it sounds like. Developers can pull an existing repository into AI Studio Build, where the platform normalizes the code for runtime compatibility within its environment.

Once imported, developers can iterate on the codebase using AI-assisted tools, including chat-based interactions and code annotations powered by Google’s Gemini models. The finished product can then be deployed to environments like Cloud Run.
