The German government will provide EUR 50 million to restore the New Safe Confinement (NSC) at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was damaged by a Russian drone.
According to Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported this on Facebook.
"Yesterday, during a face-to-face meeting, we discussed the possibility of securing funding. I thank Minister [Carsten] Schneider and the German delegation for their visit to the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. We appreciate the prompt decision to allocate the funds. Restoring the confinement structure is critically important for ensuring nuclear safety in Ukraine and throughout Europe," Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal said.
The German contribution is expected to be deposited into the Chornobyl International Cooperation Account.
