Germany will provide an additional €60 million ($70.1 million) in aid to Ukraine, while negotiations with international partners to secure additional Patriot interceptor missiles are progressing, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced in Kyiv on Saturday, Aug. 22. He indicated that he expects a favorable outcome and plans to continue the discussions next week, including a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Wadephul emphasized the urgency of supplying additional air defense systems, stating that the outcome of the war must ensure the rule of law prevails over the “law of the jungle.” The newly announced financial assistance includes €50 million ($58.4 million) in humanitarian aid and a €10 million ($11.7 million) contribution to the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) for Ukraine. The €50 million in humanitarian assistance will be directed to UN organizations and NGOs supporting residents in Kyiv and frontline areas. The funds will prioritize the delivery of generators, as the minister noted that Russia continues to target energy infrastructure ahead of the winter season.
