It warned that such practices violate consumers’ right to access accurate information and could expose them to health, safety and economic risks.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has ordered manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers across Nigeria to immediately withdraw consumer goods with incomplete, misleading or deceptive labels from the market.

The Commission, in a public advisory issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, said the directive followed growing circulation, distribution and sale of consumer products that fail to comply with existing standards and regulations on product labelling.

According to the FCCPC, its market surveillance, routine inspections and quality assurance activities uncovered products carrying misleading or deceptive information, as well as goods without critical information required to guide consumers before purchase.

The Commission said some of the affected products lacked production dates, expiry or best-before dates, batch numbers, manufacturer details, ingredient lists, allergen information and country-of-origin declarations.
