Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski advocates for the creation of a “European Legion” that would include Ukrainian soldiers who have gained combat experience in the war against Russia.
He spoke about this in an interview with Kathimerini, according to Ukrinform.
“As the European Union, we need far deeper military integration. This is why I strongly advocate for a “European Legion”, a dedicated, standing force that could recruit seasoned professionals from the broader European family, including battle-hardened Ukrainian veterans after the war,” Sikorski said.
According to him, Europe must take responsibility for its own security.
“We cannot call Washington every time there is a fire in our backyard – whether that is a conventional threat or Moscow weaponizing migration flows from Africa and the Middle East against the EU,” the minister added.
