Ukraine’s Armed Forces are also protecting Poland from Russia, which is why Polish volunteers supporting the Ukrainian military try to avoid using the word “aid.”
This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by Tomasz Sikora, a Polish volunteer and board member of the Polish foundation Sikorki na Ukrainie.
“The level of support for Ukraine has declined compared to 2022, but that is a normal human reaction. We live in a volunteer ‘bubble,’ surrounded by people like ourselves. Our world is full of people who travel to Ukraine. And we avoid the word ‘aid’ because we are convinced that it is Ukrainian soldiers who are protecting us from the red horde from the East, while we are simply supporting them in preserving the world we know,” Sikora emphasized.
The Polish volunteer said that in the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he and his colleagues went to the border and helped transport refugees throughout Poland. Later, they began delivering supplies to Ukraine, including to Vinnytsia.
“We quickly realized that no matter how much powdered milk and hygiene products we brought, it would all be in vain if there were no soldier capable of fighting between civilians and the enemy. That is why we started supporting Ukrainian servicemen. There are brigades we have been working with for five years now,” Sikora said.
