Google is putting its Gemini AI directly into the hands of students. Starting August 10, 2026, for web users and August 17, 2026, for mobile users, students in eligible Google Workspace for Education accounts will gain access to a suite of AI-powered tools inside Google Classroom that can help with math problems, writing assignments, quiz generation, flashcard creation, and even image production.
The move extends capabilities that were previously reserved for educators. Google first rolled out over 30 AI tools for teachers on June 30, 2025, and the student-facing expansion represents a natural, if aggressive, next step in embedding generative AI into K-12 and higher education workflows.
What students actually get
The feature set reads like a tutor-in-a-box. Students can ask Gemini for help breaking down math problems, get feedback on writing assignments, and generate study materials like quizzes, study guides, and flashcards, all derived from content their teachers have uploaded to Classroom.
That last detail matters. Rather than letting students query the open internet through Gemini, Google has scoped the AI’s responses to align with educator-uploaded materials.
