The Third Army Corps held a farewell ceremony for Colonel Yevhen Konovalets, founder of the Ukrainian Military Organization and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and commander of the Sich Riflemen Corps, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kyiv.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, the ceremony, held on the first night after Konovalets' ashes were returned to Ukraine, was attended by soldiers and Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi, commander of the Third Army Corps.
According to the Third Army Corps, Konovalets' urn was brought to the cathedral in an original Austin armored vehicle dating back to the Ukrainian Revolution, which was restored by servicemen of the corps' repair and restoration battalion.
A torch-lit honor guard of soldiers from the Third Army Corps and the Yevhen Konovalets Military School welcomed Konovalets outside the cathedral.
An artillery carriage was attached to the Austin armored vehicle, which, in Ukrainian and European military traditions, is a sign of the highest honor for a serviceman. A three-inch gun was also attached to the armored vehicle. It is an original 1917 artillery piece that was in service with the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, specifically with the Sich Riflemen Division commanded by Colonel Konovalets.
