In early August, the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted comprehensive research trials of protection systems designed to defend reusable "bomber"-type strike UAVs against enemy interceptor drones. The technologies were tested on six leading Ukrainian unmanned platforms in various configurations.
Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn, head of the Innovation Activities Department of the Central Directorate of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, told Ukrinform about the trials.
Voloshyn said that the trials had confirmed the feasibility of developing a multi-layered protection system for reusable UAVs, including reduced visibility, threat detection, crew warnings, electronic countermeasures, and physical protection.
According to him, the trials tested onboard electronic intelligence and electronic warfare systems designed to detect interceptor UAVs, identify their control and data-transmission channels, and counter them. The tested systems can detect and effectively suppress interceptor UAVs at distances of more than 1 km, across frequency ranges of 1–6,000 MHz, under various attack scenarios.
