The three-day kitchen equipment and catering expo by the Tirunelveli District Chamber of Commerce and Industries got off to a colourful start here on Friday.District Collector Anand Mohan inaugurated the three-day exhibition at Tirunelveli Corporation’s Trade Centre on S.N. High Road, wherein leading caterers, suppliers of catering and bakery equipment, cooking oil manufacturers, sweets, snacks, desserts and ice cream producers and hoteliers have showcased their products. The objective behind this exhibition is to tell those who are already into these business ventures and aspirants how tech-driven machinery and business contacts have made this ever-growing industry a successful model. The expo provides the right platform for food processors, food and beverage traders, exporters of food products, sweets, snacks, catering and bakery machinery manufacturers, caterers, event managers, entrepreneurs, etc. to showcase their products and expose others to the modern gadgets of this rapidly expanding business. When he came to the stall of Sattur-fame M.S. Shanmuga Nadar Mittai Kadai,Mr. Anand Mohan, who is apparently a great fan of this shop’s ‘suthu mittai’, asked if the sweet was available. Unfortunately, the fresh batch of this hot and crispy delicacy was on its way from Sattur to Tirunelveli, and hence the Collector had to leave without buying anything. When the ‘suthu mittai’ reached the stall shrotly before noon, the Collector had already left the venue.Chairman of the exhibition and president of Tirunelveli District Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gunasingh Chelladurai said the exhibition was being organised to reveal the real potential of this ever-growing industry to the aspirants and providing new contacts to the visitors and the hoteliers and caterers so that they could also float their own business model by taking useful lead from this expo or take the existing business to next level with what they learnt in this expo.“When we organised the wedding expo a couple of years ago, the response from the exhibitors and the public was just overwhelming, as organising a wedding in a big or small way is a part of every family. Hence, this maiden attempt was a roaring success. This event will also attract a decent crowd from all southern districts, as this event is also associated with weddings or other auspicious occasions. Hence, we expect a good response from the public during this weekend,” Mr. Gunasingh said. Published - August 14, 2026 07:39 pm IST
