Likely French presidential candidates Gabriel Attal and Raphaël Glucksmann have both recently filed legal complaints over suspected Russian interference – but what can the French legal system do about it?
Left-wing politician Glucksmann confirmed on Wednesday he has filed a complaint after being targeted by a Russian-origin disinformation campaign eight months before France’s presidential election.
In a fake AI video posted on social media, Glucksmann’s partner, TV journalist Léa Salamé, apparently attempts to bribe media outlets to paint a positive picture of the Place Publique leader.
“The Russians’ goal is to create chaos in our country and achieve an electoral victory for pro-Russian political forces,” Glucksmann said in a statement.
He was the third leading French politician in the running for the Elysee next year – after Attal (who has also filed a complaint) and Edouard Philippe – to be targeted by pro-Russian networks seeking to manipulate the result of the 2027 vote in the past few weeks.
