The Indian Cotton Federation (ICF), in association with ICAL, Bathinda, will host its seventh All India Cotton Conference in Coimbatore on August 21 and 22.The ICF president, J. Thulasidharan, and its secretary, Nishant Asher, told the media on Friday that nearly 500 delegates are expected to participate in the two-day programme on the theme “Cotton – The Sustainable Fibre of the Future,” and discuss the current demand, market trends, production, and environmental issues related to cotton.This year, the event will have participants from the U.S., UK, Egypt, and Malaysia too.“The aim (of the event) is to equip the participants with information that will help them in their business,” said Mr. Thulasidharan.Farmers, ginners, agents, traders, textile manufacturers, global cotton experts, and policy makers will attend the conference that is held once in two years.Lalit Kumar Gupta, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), will be the chief guest and Purnesh Gururani, Director (Fibre), and Sourabh Kulkarni, Joint Textile Commissioner (Cotton) from the Union Ministry of Textiles will take part.Cotton is increasingly moving beyond its traditional identity as a basic raw material and emerging as a value-added, traceable, sustainable, and environmentally responsible fibre, they said.
