In a drive to ensure smooth movement of vehicles, the Mangaluru City traffic police fined 7,490 vehicle owners for parking violations over two months from June.The vehicles were booked for no-parking, parking on footpaths, parking on the wrong side, double parking and parking that obstructed traffic. Of the 7,490 cases, 1,080 pertained to parking on footpaths. A total fine of ₹3.07 lakh was collected for these violations.A drive was also held between August 4 and August 12 to book cases for defective vehicle registration plates, fake number plates, and the absence of number plates. A total of 258 vehicles were booked for defective number plates, and 74 vehicles were booked for plying without a number plate. A total of 332 cases were booked and a fine of ₹3.01 lakh was collected.In a press note, the police asked motorists to display their vehicle number plates properly. Vehicle owners were advised to use High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). The city police will continue to hold special drives for traffic rule enforcement, the note added.
