Between June 21 and July 10, the Mangaluru City police collected ₹92.43 lakh in fines in 35,160 traffic violation cases, following the announcement of a 50% rebate in fines by the government in June for cases registered before May 2026.In a press release, the police said some motorists paid the fines online, while others paid by visiting traffic police stations, following which the cases were closed.Of the 35,160 cases, 18,792 cases were registered for violations noticed by AI-based cameras installed across the city. The remaining 16,368 cases were for violations noticed by traffic police personnel.Licences suspendedMeanwhile, the Regional Transport Office said has suspended 137 driving licences in cases involving fatal road accidents and serious traffic violations. The police said they had seized driving licences in a total of 224 cases and recommended suspension to the RTO. The process of suspending driving licences in the remaining cases was under way.
