Europe’s crypto traders have been voting with their wallets, and the verdict is clear: regulated platforms are winning. OKX Europe reported that inflows from unlicensed exchanges surged roughly fivefold in the 30 days leading up to the July 1, 2026 MiCA compliance deadline, with some internal data putting the figure as high as 5.5x.

At peak activity, approximately 90% of deposits came from users leaving unregulated platforms. That’s up from around 69% in April 2026.

The MiCA effect in real numbers

The Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, the EU’s sweeping framework for digital asset oversight, saw its transitional period expire on July 1, 2026. That date functioned as a hard cutoff for exchanges operating without proper authorization in the European Economic Area.

Over €100 million flowed into OKX from entities already operating under regulatory supervision during this period.
