Quantinuum and Quanta Computer have signed a development agreement to jointly build hardware infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities for quantum computing systems. The deal, announced on August 13, brings together two companies operating at different ends of the same problem: Quantinuum knows how to build cutting-edge quantum processors, and Quanta knows how to manufacture advanced computing hardware at industrial scale.
What the deal actually covers
The agreement focuses on three pillars: hardware infrastructure development, systems engineering, and manufacturing for advanced quantum systems. Joint engineering efforts between the two companies are already underway, targeting modular and scalable quantum computing infrastructure.
On the Quantinuum side, the deal leverages the company’s trapped-ion quantum technology, including its QCCD (quantum charge-coupled device) architecture and its Helios system. Trapped-ion quantum computers use individual atoms suspended in electromagnetic fields as qubits, the quantum equivalent of classical computing’s bits.
That’s where Quanta enters the picture. The Taiwan-headquartered company is a Fortune Global 500 manufacturer with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure and advanced computing solutions.
