A specialized operation by Bulgaria's General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) is underway in the Botevgrad area, targeting two alleged criminal groups known locally as “Peevite” and “Inket.” Three people have so far been detained on suspicion of usury, coercion and pimping.
The operation began early in the morning in the village of Novachene, with specialized police teams deployed at the scene. According to information from bTV, Bulgarian National Radio and NOVA, the two groups have been on police radar for years over allegations of aggressive and arrogant behavior, conflicts and harassment of local residents.
The operation follows the circulation of a video on social media showing a local boy from Novachene being beaten and harassed. The footage triggered a strong public reaction, including calls for residents to defend themselves against the alleged groups.
Local residents have reportedly complained for years about the behavior of the two groups, which are also said to display a high standard of living without visible or proven sources of income. They have allegedly been involved in repeated conflicts and incidents of aggression in the area.
The Interior Ministry's operation is expected to continue as authorities seek both to stop the suspected criminal activity and to reduce tensions among residents. The investigation remains underway, while prosecutors are expected to determine whether the detained individuals will face formal charges.
