A mother who fatally injured her three-month-old daughter using heat from a hairdryer has been jailed for six years.Courtney Gartshore, 28, caused fatal injuries to Dahlia-Rose Gartshore after subjecting her head and body to "significant and sustained heat" with the appliance.The death occurred at an address on King Street in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, on 30 September 2023.Emergency crews attended the property, but the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.Gartshore had been drinking alcohol earlier while in sole care of the child.Dahlia-Rose died when she was just three months old in September 2023 (Supplied)A police investigation was subsequently opened, and the Aberdeen mother was arrested and charged in November 2023.She was convicted of her daughter's culpable homicide following a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen in July.The 28-year-old was handed her six-year prison sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday.Following her conviction, Detective Inspector James Callander said: "Children are defenceless and should be protected.
