Courtney Gartshore, 28, has been found guilty of killing her three-month-old daughter Dahlia-Rose Gartshore, who suffered serious burns after being exposed to heat from a hairdryer17:44, 16 Jul 2026Updated 18:13, 16 Jul 2026A mum has been found guilty of killing her three-month-old daughter after exposing her to heat from a hairdryer.‌Courtney Gartshore, 28, had denied culpable homicide of her three-month-old daughter Dahlia-Rose, who was in her care in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, in September 2023.‌Jurors took just over an hour to reach a guilty verdict on the seventh day of the trial at the High Court in Aberdeen. Gartshore sobbed as she was led from the dock to the cells, BBC reports.‌She was found guilty of culpably and recklessly causing Dahlia-Rose to be subjected to heat from the appliance while the child was in her sole care. The charge stated the baby's injuries were so severe that she died as a result.Gartshore is due to be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on August 14.‌Jurors heard Dahlia-Rose suffered burns to 18% of her body and that her DNA was found on the hairdryer. A recording of the 999 call made by Gartshore, in which she told dispatchers her child had gone "purple" while asleep, was played in court.However, expert witness and burns specialist Dr Timothy Burges told the court it was his view the heat injuries did not cause Dahlia-Rose's death, and that she could have already been dead.It was alleged that Gartshore had consumed alcohol before the child's death. Other charges she had originally faced were dropped by the Crown.‌Police were alerted to the incident on September 30, 2023, by the Scottish Ambulance Service after Dahlia-Rose was pronounced dead at the scene in Peterhead. An investigation into her death was launched and following enquiries, Gartshore was arrested and charged in November 2023.Detective Inspector James Callander said: "Children are defenceless and should be protected.
