According to a report by WirtschaftsWoche, Porsche plans to discontinue the battery-electric Taycan within the next four years. The publication cites company insiders. Porsche’s management has also discussed moving Taycan production to Leipzig, as we reported at the end of 2024, as well as ending production of the electric sports car sooner. However, Porsche now appears to have decided to keep the Taycan in production until 2029 or 2030, which would give the model a production run of around a decade.
According to WirtschaftsWoche, Porsche decided due to significant underutilisation of Taycan production at its Stuttgart headquarters and weakening demand. Sales have reportedly fallen by around two-thirds compared with 2023. Porsche delivered nearly 41,000 Taycan vehicles in 2023, but only around 16,000 units last year. The downward trend has continued, with just over 6,000 Taycan deliveries in the first half of 2026.
“In recent months, production has been repeatedly halted due to weak demand,” WirtschaftsWoche reports. Porsche is no longer considering moving Taycan production away from Stuttgart. The carmaker has also reached an agreement with the works council to discontinue the model by 2030, although the agreement has yet to be put in writing.
