A computer rendering of TerraPower’s advanced small modular reactor power plant in Kemmerer, Wyoming (Doosan Enerbility) Doosan Enerbility has secured a deal to supply critical components for US-based TerraPower’s advanced small modular reactor, partnering with the Bill Gates-backed nuclear technology firm as it expands footprint in the global next-generation reactor market.Under the agreement, Doosan Enerbility will supply the core structural components —including the containment vessel, support framing and internal reactor structures — for TerraPower’s Natrium plant in Kemmerer, Wyoming.The $4 billion nuclear power plant, which kicked off construction in April following US Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval, is slated to open by 2030. It will deploy a 345-megawatt Natrium reactor, a fourth-generation sodium-cooled fast reactor that replaces high-pressure water systems with low-pressure liquid sodium.The reactor — the world’s first commercial coal-to-nuclear conversion project — features an energy storage system that can ramp up output to 500 megawatts during peak electricity demand.The project also marks a key milestone for advanced nuclear technology, making it one of the first next-generation reactor designs in the US to enter commercial-scale construction.According to Doosan Enerbility, supplying these key reactor components to TerraPower will be critical in supporting the facility’s timely construction and commercial launch.The deal builds on a partnership established in December 2024, when Doosan Enerbility began work to assess plans for TerraPower reactor’s core components. Doosan Enerbility has since design improvements to bring the components to a production-ready level, paving the way for the multi-year collaboration that blends TerraPower’s advanced reactor technology with Doosan’s high-precision manufacturing expertise.“This contract reflects the deep trust and close partnership we’ve built with TerraPower over the years,” said Kim Jong-doo, head of Doosan Enerbility’s nuclear business division. “We are committed to successfully delivering this project while expanding our presence as a global supplier of advanced nuclear components.”
