The Centre has notified 40 questions to be asked during the population enumeration phase of Census 2027. Respondents will be asked about their Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and caste status as part of the exercise.In January, Registrar General of India (RGI) had notified 33 questions for the first phase of Census 2027, covering houselisting and housing-related details. The questionnaire included a query on whether the head of the household belonged to the SC, ST or "other" category.The second phase, or Population Enumeration (PE), is scheduled for February 2027 and will collect demographic, socio-economic, educational, migration, fertility and other details of individuals. India's Census 2027 will ask 40 questions during its population enumeration phase. Respondents will provide details on their Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe status. This census marks the first comprehensive caste enumeration since 1931. The exercise will also be India's first fully digital census.
