CENTRAL Division police have launched an investigation into reports that a gang has been terrorising residents living in a community in Freeport.The Express spoke with victims who have appealed to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to intervene before it's too late.A senior officer confirmed that the matter was being investigated and that officers were actively working to resolve the issues. He said the residents of Arena Road would soon get a positive response.In an interview with the Express on Tuesday, one resident shared that over the course of a year, his family has been a victim of home invasion 17 times by the group.Requesting anonymity due to safety concerns, the homeowner said his family is now frustrated with the repeated offences.'This is not the first time they break into the place and rob me. It is a lot of times. Right now, I have about 17 reports, and that is what we have that we get receipts. It have reports where they pelt down the place, burst up car glass, all kind of thing. It is real terrible. It is real frustrating,' he said. He added that he recently took out a loan to fence his property to keep out the bandits.However, on Sunday, while the family of five were out, he said they broke into his home through a back window.'We went out around 2 p.m., and when we come back in the evening, that is when we realise they break in. My daughter come home and she hearing a noise in my son's room. When she watch, she see the three of them inside the room and she start to bawl out, and they jump out the window,' he continued.On checking, he discovered that several tools, including a welding plant, an electric saw, a grinder, and an electric drill were missing.'It is real tools and thing I loss. I now start to buy back tools,' he said.He believes the criminals have also been operating throughout the community.'It is not me alone. It is the whole village. They are terrorising the village. It is about two or three years since it happening to a lot of neighbours, but everybody afraid and don't want to stand up,' he continued.He is now pleading with police to take immediate action and put a stop to the illegal activities.'Some authorities have to come forward and take care of this situation because it is getting worse. I understand there is a procedure, but we telling you we seeing the people. We know exactly who the people are and nobody getting lock up.'No assistance we are getting. We even had a meeting and the police said they will sort it out, but up to now nothing is happening. I fed up. I don't know what to do again,' he said.Yesterday, the senior police officer said there would be increased vigilance in the area to ensure that residents were safe.Over 50 reportsAnother resident, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, said her six-member family was often harassed by the group.She told the Express that the attacks started in 2016 when the group would pelt stones and glass bottles at the homes of residents in the area.At that time, she said the members of the group were all under the age of 18. She said despite repeated reports to the police, the matter was not addressed.'Over the years, I have made over 50 reports to the police and they are not doing anything. I have so many receipts, I can make a booklet,' she continued.On the advice of officers, she said a restraining order was taken out in 2018, which expired in 2021. However, even throughout that period, she said the attacks continued.In November 2025, the group jumped her fence and stole nine ducks she was rearing in her yard.'They are a menace to the community. They are going into people's homes, terrorising them, mashing up and breaking up things in people's houses and stealing. Villagers are terrified of these people,' she continued.She appealed for immediate action.'We want the police to take this matter seriously. The thing about it is that nobody is doing anything to them. They could walk the road freely, but everybody else has to hide. I am not hiding anymore because I am tired of it. I am fed up of it,' she said.
