The NBA released full schedules for all 30 teams Thursday, and while each of those schedules contains the same number of games, including NBA Cup group assignments, there are still pockets of intrigue unique to each team. With the addition of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, that is especially true for the Heat.Here are the major takeaways from Thursday’s full schedule release for the Heat:Heat back on the national stageAntetokounmpo was a staple of the NBA’s Christmas Day programming for six straight years (2018-23). As the Milwaukee Bucks started to struggle to make deep playoff runs, they stopped showing up on the schedule for the NBA’s marquee television day, which bothered the two-time NBA MVP.In his first season with a new team, Antetokounmpo and the Heat (who also haven’t played on Christmas since 2023) are back on the schedule for the league’s premier television event in the second game of the day on the road against the Boston Celtics. But Christmas isn’t the only time the NBA’s broadcast partners have chosen to feature the Heat.Giannis' Bucks career by the numbersESPN made the Heat part of its opening week programming by choosing to air Miami’s season (and home) opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 21. On Nov. 25, the Heat’s first trip to Philadelphia to take on LeBron James and the 76ers will be part of an ESPN tripleheader the day before Thanksgiving. Two days later, the Heat head to New York for the first game in a Prime Video Black Friday doubleheader against the Knicks. On Feb. 15, the Heat host the San Antonio Spurs as part of NBC’s Presidents’ Day quadrupleheader.The Heat will be one of the most nationally televised teams in the NBA. After appearing on the nationally televised/streamed schedule just five times last season (and seven times during the 2024-25 season), Miami will have 25 such games for the 2026-27 season, the 10th-most national television appearances of any NBA team.Antetokounmpo’s return to MilwaukeeWhile it may not necessarily be the Heat’s primary concern, a huge part of this season’s story is that their best player is suiting up for a different team for the first time in his NBA career. The team might not feel that, but Antetokounmpo will each time he puts on his Heat uniform.He will feel it on Nov. 18 when the Heat host the Bucks for Antetokounmpo’s first game against his old team (and again on Feb. 4), but he will especially feel it when he goes back to Milwaukee for the first time as a member of another team on Jan. 28.These games will feature a number of firsts for Antetokounmpo. Nov. 18 will be the first time he wears another jersey and competes against the Bucks. Jan. 28 will be his first time taking a pregame bus to Fiserv Forum, getting ready in the visitors’ locker room and running onto the floor out of the other tunnel. It will be the first time he competes for another team under the championship banner he helped hang up in 2021.After making 10 All-Star appearances, winning two MVP and one Defensive Player of the Year awards and bringing the Bucks their first championship since 1971, each game against Milwaukee will be overwhelmingly emotional for Antetokounmpo. The head coach and players on the other side of the roster might be different, but emotions will still run high for Miami’s new superstar, and the organization will have to be ready to get Antetokounmpo through each experience.Toughest parts of the scheduleThe Heat will have a lot to figure out to open this season while trying to integrate Antetokounmpo and the schedule does them no early favors. Miami has two five-game road trips this season and the first one starts on Nov. 2 in Los Angeles and ends Nov. 10 in Utah, which means seven of their first 11 games will be on the road. Also, two of their 13 back-to-backs come in the first 15 days of the season.One of the most difficult stretches of any regular season is the series of games from the halfway point (Game 41) to the unofficial “halfway” point of the season, the NBA All-Star break, and that stretch might provide some problems for the Heat as well. In those 17 games from Jan. 15 to Feb. 17, the Heat play 10 road games, including five of their final seven games before the break on the road. Their only respite in those final seven games before the break is a home back-to-back with a 1 p.m. start against Brooklyn on Feb. 14 and a 5 p.m. start against the Spurs on Feb. 15.A lot can happen in the next eight months, but the end of Miami’s schedule looks like it could be relatively difficult as well. The Heat wrap up their 2026-27 schedule with three games at home, but their second five-game road trip of the season starts on March 29 and takes up five of the final eight games of the season. Seven of those eight games come against teams that either finished in the playoffs or the play-in in the Eastern Conference last season, including three of the top four teams in the East.
