Each day we inch closer to opening night and the tip-off of the 2026-27 NBA season. On Tuesday, the NBA announced the opening week and Christmas schedule, and showed what teams will start the season on prime time and what teams will get the privilege to play on Christmas Day. While the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons start the season on October 20 and the San Antonio Spurs rematch on Christmas against the New York Knicks, the Milwaukee Bucks got some scheduling news of their own on Wednesday. The league announced the Emirates NBA Cup group draw results with the tournament starting on October 30. We got to see what other teams will be in the same group as the Bucks, and it's an interesting group. Detroit is coming off their first 60-win season since 2006 after a great year by All-NBA guard, Cade Cunningham. The 24-year old averaged 23.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 9.9 per game while shooting 46.1% from the field and 34.2% from the 3-point line. His teammate Jalen Duren also had a career year for the Pistons averaging 19.5 points and10.5 rebounds per game to help create a dynamic duo to take the top spot in the east. Ausar Thompson was one of the best defenders in the league, making All-Defensive First team and averaged two steals per game with Detroit. The Pistons had an entertaining playoff run when they had to comeback down 3-1 to defeat the Orlando Magic in the first round, and later lost in seven games to the Cleveland Cavilers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The offseason has been a rollercoaster as they acquired key pieces like Isiah Joe, John Collins, Taurean Prince, Gary Harris and Ebuka Okorie, but also pieces lost Tobias Harris, Caris LeVert Isiah Stewart. Among the roster changes, contract negations between Duren have also lasted the duration of the offseason and even sparked possible trade rumors if him and the Pistons can't meet eye to eye.Regardless, Detroit will still be on of the top teams in east and the Bucks will have their hands full. The Pistons went 3-1 against Milwaukee last season and will see each other again in the NBA Cup. Toronto was a scrappy team and despite losing in the first round to the Cleveland Cavilers, the series went to seven games. A team with a lot of versatility and depth, the Raptors had six double-digit scorers with Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett and Scottie Barnes creating a trio that allowed Toronto to be successful this season.Scottie Barnes looked great in his fifth season after he averaged 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.5 steals per game on 50.7% shooting from the field. He was an All-Star and made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, but easily had a debate to make the first team. In his second career playoff appearance he looked like an absolutely star, and averaged 24.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 8.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 50.9% from the field and 38.1% from the 3-point line. The Raptors made news this offseason by trading for Kawhi Leonard and reuniting him with Toronto since they won the championship in 2019, but the trade is on pause as the league investigates into Leonard's time with the Los Angeles Clippers. Without Leonard, the Raptors are still a good team and it was shown in the playoffs. Toronto went 3-1 against the Bucks this season, and if the trade does go through, they'll easily be one of the most talented teams in the Eastern Conference. Orlando Magic Mar 8, 2026; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Milwaukee Bucks guard Ryan Rollins (13) reaches for the ball against Orlando Magic forward Tristan da Silva (23) in the second quarter at Fiserv Forum. Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectThe Orlando Magic are heading into a different after a 45-37 season, where they blew a 3-1 lead to the Detroit Pistons in the first round. Orlando was on the brink of becoming the seventh No. 8 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed, but couldn't pull it off.The Magic moved on from their previous head coach Jamahl Mosley after five seasons and hired Sean Sweeney from the Spurs to be their next head coach. Sweeney was the associate head coach for Spurs last season and will have an talent core of players on his new team. Paolo Banchero led the team in scoring and averaged 22.2 points, 8.4. rebounds and 5.2 assists in his fourth season. He followed up a solid regular season with a good playoff run against the Pistons where he averaged 26.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists. He had a few memorable games such as scoring 45 in Game 5 and 38 in Game 7, but also had some disappointing games against Detroit. Banchero has gotten a lot of criticism and was even ranked as the No. 3 most overrated player according to Bleacher Report, but I still personally think he's a great player and is the best player on the team.Franz Wagner could easily take that title for his own as he had a great season of his own despite only playing in 34 games for the Magic. Desmond Bane also provided the shooting and additional scoring that Orlando hoped for when they traded for him last summer. In addition of their big three, the Magic also have key rotational players such as Jalen Suggs, Anthony Black and Wendall Carter Jr.They're a talented team who go toe-to-toe with the conference's best as seen in the playoff this year and if Sweeney can help improve the team in his first season, then they can be another dangerous team in a loaded east Brooklyn NetsApr 10, 2026; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma (18) defends Brooklyn Nets guard Nolan Traoré (88) during the first quarter at Fiserv Forum. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectThe Brooklyn Nets came off a rough season where they finished the year 20-62, There wasn't many positives for a team that's going through a rebuild, but the most exciting part of the season was the offseason.Brooklyn had the No. 6 pick in the draft and selected Mikel Brown Jr. to be the focal point of the foreseeable future. The Nets also added Joshua Jefferson with the No. 28 pick and Tyler Bilodeau in the second round to build their young core. Michael Porter Jr. had the green light season with Brooklyn averaging 18.4 shot attempts a game and 24.2 points per game. The Nets top pick from a year ago in Egor Dёmin had a solid rookie season averaging 10.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 38.5% from the 3-point line. Brooklyn is looking to build around their young core and hopefully can take another step in the right direction next season. The Bucks first game in the NBA Cup will take place on November 6 where they will first the Toronto Raptors. Our quest for the NBA Cup begins Nov. 6. pic.twitter.com/uuI3KuTARd— Milwaukee Bucks (@Bucks) August 12, 2026Milwaukee will have its hands full with the teams in their group, but it will be a good opportunity to show the league what the Bucks can do agaisnt some of the league's best.
