Gregory Loftus, the father of Bevan Loftus, testifies at the Madlanga Commission on his son's death at the hands of police.
Former SAPS officer Gregory Loftus, the father of the late Bevan Loftus, told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that his son was killed by the police ‘hit squad’ allegedly contracted by Bevan’s competitor in the tow trucking industry to kill him for R2.5 million.
Loftus rejected the police's version that Bevan and his friends exchanged fire with police before they were killed.
He testified that they were shot dead by members of a task team, led by Lieutenant-Colonel Deena Govender, at a flat in Morningside, Durban, on 1 April 2023.
“From the pictures I have seen and taken and the markings on the walls and the floor in the flat, I do not believe there was a shootout,” Loftus said.
