Gregory Loftus, the father of the late drug kingpin Bevan Loftus, alleges that a sum of R2.5 million was offered in 2022 for the murder of his son in what he describes as a rivalry in the tow-truck industry.
Testifying before the Madlanga Commission on Thursday, Loftus alleged that the proposed hit was linked to a rivalry in the tow-truck industry and accused competitor Clive Naiker of being behind the alleged plot.
“Bevan was murdered by the police under the guise of a legitimate police operation and at the instance of Clive Naicker, a competitor of Bevan, in the tow-truck industry and an alleged drug dealer,” Loftus said.
He told the commission that a recorded cellphone conversation between Bevan and Naiker supported his allegations. The recording was played during the proceedings.
