Yemen’s Houthi group claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Saudi Aramco’s refinery in Jizan, one of the kingdom’s key oil processing facilities with a capacity of roughly 400,000 barrels per day. The attack, which the group says involved two drones, adds another chapter to a long-running pattern of cross-border strikes targeting Saudi energy infrastructure.
Saudi authorities confirmed that a fire broke out at the refinery but was quickly extinguished, with no injuries reported.
What the Houthis said
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree described the strike as “precise,” framing it as retaliation for alleged Saudi drone activity over Yemen’s Saada and Hajjah provinces.
This is not the first time the group has gone after Saudi energy assets in recent weeks. The Houthis previously targeted Saudi facilities in both Jizan and Yanbu in July 2026, establishing a tempo of attacks that suggests a sustained campaign rather than isolated provocations.
