Metaplanet has launched a new corporate bond issuance program called BitBonds and completed its inaugural issuance as the Bitcoin treasury company expands its funding options in Japan.
The company issued approximately ¥200 million, or about $1.2 million, in bonds across four series through a private placement. The bonds carry maturities of roughly three years and annual interest rates ranging from approximately 4.0% to 4.3%.
Metaplanet said BitBonds will serve as a continuous issuance framework for senior unsecured bonds and become a core financing tool alongside common shares, equity linked instruments and preferred shares. The company also plans to use the program to broaden its investor base and strengthen its funding capacity in the yen bond market.
The inaugural issuance was distributed through Metaplanet Securities, the company’s wholly owned securities subsidiary. It marked the first time investment opportunities based on Metaplanet’s credit were made available to a broader group of investors, including individuals and corporate entities.
Metaplanet Securities CEO Kazuki Komura said the company’s platform handled the initial issuance under the new program and described it as the first time Metaplanet credit based investment opportunities had been offered to a diverse range of investors, including individuals.
