Applications for student visas to the UK have continued to decline just ahead of the peak recruitment season.
Monthly visa data released by the Home Office show that sponsored study visa applications were down 11 per cent in July this year compared to July 2025, and now well below 2023’s peak.
Universities will be waiting anxiously to see if things improve in August, often seen as the peak of the student visa application cycle ahead of the start of the academic year.
International student recruitment in the UK has declined dramatically after the government imposed restrictions which prevented most students from bringing their families with them.
Numbers have continued to fall amid a more hostile climate for those coming from overseas, including reductions in the length of the graduate visa.
