The Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s (Dirco) decision to recall SA's High Commissioner to India, Professor Anil Sooklal, for “consultations” following a controversial photograph with Jacob Zuma and fugitive Ajay Gupta, has highlighted concerns around foreign policy.
Sooklal was recently photographed with Zuma and Gupta at the Siddhpeeth Shri Dakshin Kali Mandir in Haridwar and the photo was shared on social media.
It sparked public outrage and calls for Dirco to investigate the circumstances surrounding the meeting.
The POST approached Sooklal about the action taken against him, but he declined to comment.
