The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) on Saturday was mum when it emerged the department informed Parliament that High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Anil Sooklal, was given approval to receive former president Jacob Zuma in India.

On Friday, DA MP Ryan Smith revealed that it was confirmed to the parliamentary Committee on International Relations that Sooklal received written instructions from DIRCO to receive Zuma and Ajay Gupta.

Committee Chairperson Supra Mahumapelo shared the information in a message on their Whatsapp group.

“I am not sure how the communication was disseminated to the chairperson, but that is confirmed on our Whatsapp group,” said Smith.
